South Indian Rice Idli Recipe | Steamed Rice Cakes

Image
Idli is a round, steamed cake traditionally made of lentils and short-grain rice. Not to mention, it is one of the healthiest breakfast recipes of Indian cuisine and a staple food of South India. Authentically, idli is made using a semi-thick fermented batter made of urad dal and short grain rice; however there are many other varieties too such as Rava Idli , Oats Idli , and Poha or Avial Idli etc. that are enjoyed in Indian homes. Recently I also made Instant Moong Dal Idli which was a great hit with my family. While all these varieties are instant, quick, easy to make and require no fermentation, yet the traditional rice & lentil idli (the recipe of which I am going to share today) is one that has no comparison. Spongy, fluffy and pillowy soft, these idlis are best enjoyed with the traditional South Indian Sambar and Coconut Chutney on the side. So, if you have been looking for the best recipe to make these traditional Rice Idlis, I must say, you are on the correct page. L

Instant Rava and Oats Idli

A healthy and wholesome recipe, Instant Oats and Rava Idli is a quick, easy and delicious breakfast option to start your day. Having a considerable proportion of oats, it is loaded with all that daily dose of nutrition and complex carbs, which not only regulate blood sugar levels and lower the cholesterol but, also aid in weight loss as well as relieve stomach ailments such as constipation and indigestion. In this recipe, I have used the normal Quaker Rolled Oats however, you can use any type of oats, steelcut or instant based on their availability. Eventually, they would be grounded and then used in the idli , thereby, not making any difference to its texture. Let's start with the detailed recipe. Check out more such recipes... Halwai Style Hing Jeera Aloo ki Sabzi

Image
Hing Jeera Aloo ki Sabzi is a spicy potato curry mostly enjoyed in UP and other parts of Northern India. The lip-smacking curry makes for a perfect accompaniment to kachoris, parathas as well as pooris. Traditionally, it is paired with Bedmi Poori - a spiced lentil stuffed crispy fried bread, yet another popular delicacy from the region. For me, Hing Jeera Aloo, Bedmi Poori and a chilled glass of meethi lassi makes for the most hearty breakfast to ever enjoy. The ongoing lockdown has made us stay inside our homes for more than a month now. With that, I am sure most of you would be missing that tentalizing Sunday breakfast of poori aloo ki sabzi, kachoris and samosas from that one special halwai highly famous in your colonies - am I right? Even I am missing that lipsmacking street-side breakfast, and therefore, decided to make this hing jeera aloo ki sabzi in traditional halwai style at home. Served it with bedmi poori and our yummilicious breakfast for today was sorted in n

Oats and Rava Veggie Appe [Appam | Paniyaram]

Image
Appe , also known a Appam or Paniyaram,  is one of the traditional breakfasts served in almost every South Indian household. Authentically they are made using fermented rice flour batter (same way as in idli and dosa), but, since its a tedious and time taking process soaking, grinding and fermenting the rice, these instant oats & rava appe make for a quick and easy alternative. Also, loaded with whole lots of veggies, they certainly provide for a nutritious, healthy and yummilicious option, perfect to pack for your kids' lunch box too. Ideally they go very well with South Indian coconut chutney , in case that is not readily available, they can be served with coriander-mint chutney or tomato ketchup as well. Do try them out and you surely won't be disappointed.
