Earlier this week, I posted the recipe of the popular Middle Eastern Dip , Hummus . Now, what's hummus without falafel, the fried chickpea fritters? Believed to have been originated in Egypt, falafel are now popular not only in the Middle East but, across the globe. Many foodies enjoy it as is with Hummus and Tahini on the side, and many prefer it as a stuffing in Pita Sandwiches topped with fresh salads, greens and pickles. Whatever way you wish to have these falafels, you are surely gonna love them. Before I forget, these delicious and crunchy fritters are a great source of protein and make for healthy appetizers, especially for vegans and vegetarians. One of the globally famous Middle Eastern Dips, Hummus needs no special introduction. Velvety and creamy in texture, primarily made with chickpeas or gerbanzo beans, it truly makes for a healthy yet delicious accompaniment most commonly served with another equally popular Middle Eastern appetizer, the much famous Falafels. In case you are looking for a creamy and luscious spread to apply on your plain bread, in the sandwich or burger, hummus again makes for an ideal choice; just grab a tablespoon and it is sure to take your bread to another level. Well! hummus tastes simply delicious as is, I have just given it a little twist by adding avocados to make it more luscious and rich in taste. ' Falafel' is a well-known Middle Eastern specialty which is made of chickpeas and loads of fresh herbs like coriander and mint. The flavorful snack is served with an equally lip-smacking dip popularly called as ' Hummus'. Ingredients (For Falafel) 1 cup overnight soaked chickpeas A small bunch of fresh coriander A small bunch of fresh mint Salt to taste 1 tsp roasted cumin powder Juice of 1 fresh lemon/lime 2-3 green chillies 3-4 cloves garlic 1 medium sized finely chopped onions Pinch of baking soda Oil for frying Method (For Falafel) 1. Blend all the ingredients together in a mixi or a grinder. 2. Shape the mixture into small lemon sized balls. 3. Fry them in medium hot oil until golden brown in color. 4. Serve
