Shahi Namkeen (Snack) Mixture

Image
Indian food culture is absolutely incomplete without the dry snack mixtures; be it South India or North India, people here need something to munch on either to curb their hunger pangs during the day or as an accompaniment to their evening tea or coffee. I remember during our childhood days, a huge wooden cabinet in the kitchen was used as a storage for a variety of such homemade snacks; methi nimki , namak paarey , besan ke laddoo , homemade jeera biscuits and nan khatai were some of the regular stuff that was stocked out in small portions whenever we felt hungry or when some guests visited our home. This healthy and absolutely lip smacking shahi namkeen mixture was also one of such snacks and was made quite frequently. Comprised of assorted nuts blended with spicy, tangy and sweet flavors, it truly used to be an addictive stuff that we loved to have with our tea in the evenings. Plus, come Diwali, and my Mom would make this mixture in big batches, seal them up in beautifu

Namak Paarey | Indian Salted Fried Crackers

Image
These deep fried Indian salted crackers have been one of may favorite tea time munchies since the childhood days. I still remember how elderly ladies of our home, especially during festivities like Holi and Diwali , would assemble together and indulge in making huge batches of mathris, nimkis , namak paarey, gujiyas, laddoos and other sorts of irresistible snacks and nibblies. That used to be the best time-pass for all of us kiddos watching them and waiting eagerly to hog on such delectable stuff as soon as it was out of the kadhai. Writing all this, I can once again sense that wonderful aroma of ajwain and saunf whiffing in the air, reminiscing me of such sweet and unforgettable memories of childhood. As Holi is just knocking on our doors, why not step back in time and relive those good old days by making these crunchy-munchy tea time snackers yet again in our very own home kitchens? Ingredients and step by step recipe is listed below; do scroll down to have a look at the same.

Dahi Bhalla Chaat

Image
Dahi Bhalla , also known as Dahi Vada is one of the most popular street foods in North India . The tongue-tickling flavors imparted from dry spices and tangy chutneys, simply makes it an irresistible treat for every avid foodie. While these bhallas are often a chaat stall's glory, they also make for festive delights and are generally prepared in majority of the households during the time of Diwali and Holi . Whenever these festivals are round the corner, I look forward to making them along with numerous other sweet and savory delicacies like DRY GUJIYA ,   BANARASI TAMATAR KI CHAAT , CHIROTE , BHAKARWADI , ROSE & ALMOND KULFI , GULAB JAMUN and NIMKIS . If you too love this lip-smacking chaat and are in quest of a recipe that can yield super soft and spongy bhallas, then I am sure this recipe is not gonna leave you disappointed. However, there are few points that certainly need to be taken care of: first, whisking of the batter for good 10 to 15 minutes so that air

Tikoni Methi Mathri | Methi Nimki | Fenugreek flavored Indian Fried Crackers

Image
Mathri is an Indian style fried cracker that is popular all across North India. While generally an accompaniment to the tea, it also makes for a perfect choice to satiate those little munchy-punchy cravings that we all have several times a day. Though these buttery flaky crackers are widely available in markets in a variety of shapes and flavors, the ones that I like the most are these triangular shaped mathris loaded with beautiful aroma and taste of dried fenugreek leaves. And yes! what makes them even more fascinating for me is that one black pepper corn fixed right in their centers. Ohhh... I just love the sight of it...don't know why 😁 If you too are fascinated about mathris like me and are usually concerned about the hygiene checks taken care off in the store-bought ones, do try your hands making these Tikoni Methi Mathris at home and I assure, you will never get them from the market again.
