Homemade Spring Roll Sheets | Spring Roll Wrappers [Includes Video Recipe]

Spring Rolls are one of the most loved snacks by almost everyone of us. But, for making them, one of the most essential requirements is of spring roll sheets or wrappers. While many a times, these sheets are easily available at supermarkets or grocery stores, however, there are instances when you can't find them so conveniently like for example, I wanted to make spring rolls during the lockdown, but the wrappers were unavailable everywhere, even online. So, in such cases what to do? Well, I decided to make them at home and trust me, they came out really well. I made a batch of veg spring rolls out of them and another batch I used for making Chicken Keema Samosas. Well, I shall be sharing the recipes of these two soon but, today let me share with you the complete recipe and procedure to make these spring roll sheets at home. There's also a video depicting the whole procedure in the METHOD Section; you can watch the same for more clarity...

INGREDIENTS

  • Maida/APF - 2 cups
  • Salt - 1/4 tsp
  • Water - about 3/4 cup or as needed

PRO-TIPS

  • Once the sheets are cooked, place them under a wet kitchen towel. And store them in ziplock bags in the refrigerator. They stay good for 4 to 5 days.
  • When using the spring roll sheets, take care that they dry very fast. So, work with one sheet at a time and keep the rest covered with a wet kitchen towel all the time.
  • Besides spring rolls, these sheets can also be used to make samosas and wontons.

METHOD

Watch out the video for the complete process:

  1. In a bowl, combine maida and salt. Mix nicely.
  2. Adding a little water at a time, knead a soft and supple dough. Kneading may take around 8 to 10 minutes. The dough should be soft and completely smooth.
  3. Cover the dough and keep aside to rest for 30 minutes.
  4. Once the dough is rested divide it into 10 to 12 equal portions.
  5. Take two portions at a time and roll each of them into 4 to 5 inch dia circles.
  6. Brush the top of each circle with some oil generously.
  7. Sprinkle them with a little flour.
  8. Now stack one portion over the other, greased side facing each other.
  9. Now roll this stack into a thin 10 to 12 inch dia circle.
  10. Place this rolled sheet on a heated griddle and cook for about 20 seconds on each side.
  11. Remove from the griddle and immediately pull off the two sheets to separate from each other.
  12. Place these sheets on a plate and cover with a damp cloth.
  13. Continue making all the sheets in the similar manner.
  14. Now grab all the sheets and cut out the edges to make a square.
  15. The homemade spring roll sheets/wrappers are ready.
  16. Stack them and store refrigerated in a ziplock bag until use.
