Chocolate Glazed Doughnuts
I started this blog just as a normal home chef and at that time, I did not have even slightest of an idea that my recipes would gain quite an appreciation in such a small time...today its been two and half months, and my Facebook Page has already reached 1000 + likes. For a home cook like me, it really counts as a big achievement and to celebrate it, I am here with a delectable dessert recipe which is one of my favorites, the classic chocolate glazed doughnuts. Oozing with the scintillating aroma and deliciousness of chocolate, they truly make for an awesome treat which can be served during high-tea gatherings, kids birthday celebrations, dinner parties or picnics. And yes, as its the month of Ramadan, you can also serve them for Iftari; they would surely make for a superb choice.
Ingredients (yields around 8 3" diameter doughnuts)
All purpose flour - 2 + 1/2 cups
Butter (cold) - 3 tbsp
Powdered Sugar - 3 tbsp
Milk - 1/2 cup
Egg (whisked, at room temperature) - 1 (optional)
Instant dry yeast - 2 tsp
Salt - 1 tsp
Vanilla extract - 1/2 tsp
Milk chocolate - 1/2 cup
Fresh cream - 1 tbsp
Oil - for frying
Method
1. Heat the milk such that its little lukewarm.
2. Add in a tsp of sugar and yeast. Mix it well and let the yeast bloom (activate).
3. Now, sift the all purpose flour and salt. Add the butter to it and using your hands, mix it well until you get a crumbly texture.
4. Add in sugar and again mix well.
5. Now, add in the egg, vanilla extract and milk and knead to a smooth dough.
6. Grease a bowl and place the dough in the same. Cover it with a towel and keep it a warm place to rise. It should take between 1 and 2 hours depending on how warm the place is.
7. Once the dough has doubled in volume, transfer the dough in fridge and let rest for 6 to 8 hours.
8. Take out from the refrigerator after 8 hours and roll into about half an inch thick sheet.
9. Now, cut out 3 inch diameter roundels from the sheet using a cookie cutter, a glass or any lid.
10. Again cut 1 inch roundels in the middle of 3 inch roundels to give the doughnut shape.
11. Cover these doughnuts with a towel and again let them rise for about 30 minutes.
12. In the meantime, prepare the chocolate glaze by melting the chocolate with cream in a double boiler or a microwave. Make sure to add the cream once chocolate just starts melting and mix well.
13. Next, mildly heat oil in a wok and fry doughnuts one by one on low-medium heat. Make sure your oil is not too hot as doughnuts would darken from outside and remain raw from inside.
14. Once they are fried to golden brown color on all sides, take out from the wok, cool for 2 to 3 minutes and then dip in the chocolate glaze.
15. Enjoy them warm or chilled as per your preference.
